... and how sustainable is such a model? Historically it happened sometimes that in a given eco-system all value was shifted to just one party, however in the long term invariably the model that ensure a "fair" distribution of value prevailed. What do you think?

this is a very good point and a good reason to watch the new business models. Advertising (which pays for most of the content on 2.0) is a realitevly new concept which will evolve... In the nearest time I do not see any reasons for web 1.0 business models (mix of free and premium content) to revenge strongly enough, but what may help to "equalize" the web 2.0 value chain is a stronger competition among the ad providers (Yahoo, Microsoft and others fighting Google).... Best properties (content) should become assets which ad providers will start bidding for... sort of of "reverse adWords" (or advanced adSense)... I bet that big guys are ready for that.... but web 3.0 bus models yet to be seen
